In the United States, amendments 4 of the Bill Of Rights states: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

When using a proxy, the client machine can exchange data with the remote server without making a direct connection. This way, the client's real internet address will not be known to the remote server. This process can also be called anonymizing because the idenitiy of the user is anonymous. When a client requests resouces on a website, it is stored in a form called caching. This reduces the bandwith used as the resources are only downloaded once, and are requested thereafter.
